PT Evaluation, Repositioning of otoconia using VNG technologies
Our Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) protocol is designed for physicians
who have diagnosed a patient with BPPV and the patient requires treatment using the epley or similar canalith repositioning maneuvers. All of our therapists use infrared goggles when repositioning the otoconia which increases the accuracy of the repositioning, and also allows our therapists to see residual otoconia for patients that have a multi-canal involvement which may have gone unnoticed using only the naked eye.
1. Physical Therapy Evaluation
AAAAa. Physical therapy evaluation
AAAAb. Spontaneous nystagmus evaluation using VNG technologies
AAAAc. Gaze evoked nystagmus evaluation VNG technologies
AAAAd. Positional testing using VNG technologies
AAAAe. If BPPV is detected:
AAAAAAAAi. Repositioning of otoconia crystals using VNG equipment
AAAAAAAAii. Follow up appointment to reposition any additional residual otoconia, or for multiple canal patients.
AAAAAAAAiii. Physical therapists may request additional testing for patient with a multi-factorial dizziness/balance problem.
* A one page report will be faxed to referring physician after the appointment indicating the initial findings during the physical therapy evaluation, the canal involvement, and the recommended patient treatment plan.
