NDBC internal certification programs

Rehabilitation Program
In an effort to keep with our vision of becoming the “Industry’s best provider for the treatment of dizziness and balance disorders ” we have implemented an NDBC quality assurance program to ensure excellence. As a result, our patients are treated only by physical therapists and physical therapy assistants, not technicians or rehabilitation aides. Also, every one of our new therapists must complete our internal 10 day certification program, which includes demonstrating proficiency in the use of Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) equipment for vestibular and neurological rehabilitation, and demonstrate clinical proficiency in the use Video-Electronystagmography equipment (VENG). Next is a lab with hands-on practice, followed by testing, both written and practical. All therapists must pass all tests before using CDP and VENG equipment to treat patients.

Mr. Ginkel, the founder of NDBC, has chosen to make a large investment in the training and development of every one of our therapists in our ongoing quest for excellence. Whether a therapist has one or ten years of experience prior to joining the NDBC team, all new therapists must undergo an intensive two week training program with a senior therapist before working independently with patients. Then, during their 90-day review, all new therapists must pass quality assurance tests by demonstrating proficiency in all of the following areas:

  • Computerized Dynamic Posturography treatment protocols
  • Video Electronystagmography treatment protocols
  • Functional and orthopedic evaluations specific for balance impaired patients
  • Functional testing, goals and benefits
  • Administering NDBC Home exercise programs

Medical Department
In addition to our NDBC certification program for physical therapists, we are developing an internal certification program for our physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of dizziness and balance disorders. Due to the complexity of patients seen at our clinics, it's essential to have a consistent medical staff that is knowledgeable in all areas of diagnosis and treatment of dizziness and balance impaired patients. In response to this need, we have begun to assemble a 3 day intensive training and certification program at all NDBC clinics to ensure our patients the highest level of care and continuity as possible.

Our physician certification program will cover these medical concepts specific to equilibrium disorders:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system and surrounding nerve pathways
  • The physiology of the human balance system
  • The peripheral sensory system
  • Central processing of the vestibular system
  • Vestibular and cervical reflexes
  • Postural control and abnormalities
  • Vestibular adaptation
  • Vestibular and neurological dysfunctions
  • Diagnosis and functional assessment techniques
  • Eletrophysiological studies and their use in diagnosis
  • Pharmacological treatment
  • Vestibular and neurological rehabilitation protocols
  • Management of a dizziness or balance patient
