our Dizziness & Balance Program

Our Program
Our program at NDBC utilizes a unique approach to diagnosing and treating dizziness and balance disorders. We determine the source of the dizziness or balance problem, and then definitively treat the source. This approach to treatment is what separates us from non-specialized care received in most clinics.

Our clinical goal is to provide our patients with a lasting solution to their dizziness or balance problem, not just a temporary fix to a permanent condition. We give patients back their standard of life they once had before their dizziness or balance problem began interfering with their daily activities. We accomplish this by investing in our specially trained medical staff and utilizing the most sophisticated diagnostic testing technologies to diagnosis are patients correctly. These attributes have made NDBC one of the most complete balance programs in the US.

Diagnostic Testing
To properly diagnose our patients with a dizziness or balance disorder, we have state-of-the-art diagnostic balance testing labs. We have multiple assessment tools available in our clinics, including: Rotational Chair Testing, Video-electronystagmography, Evoked Potential Testing, Computerized Dynamic Posturography utilizing NeuroCom's Smart EquiTest system, and hearing evaluations.

Rotational Chair Testing is used to determine if the vestibular (inner ear) or the neurological system is the cause of a balance disorder. When someone is turning their head, the vestibular system sends continuous signals to the brain updating it on the heads position. This causes additional signals to be sent to the muscles of the eyes via the vestibular ocular reflex (VOR). For every head movement in one direction, there is eye movement in the opposite direction. This phenomena is the basis for the rotational chair testing.

The Smart EquiTest platform is truly state-of-the-art system, and is currently offered in some large hospital and university settings in the US. NeuroCom's Smart EquiTest Computerized Dynamic Posturography can objectively measure a patients three sensory inputs at one time during the SOT test. It can provide insight into where the balance disturbance may be developing from and more importantly, which one of the sensory inputs shows a problem. This is important for patients who results from the balance lab are essentially normal, but still present with functional deficits.

Rehabilitation

In addition to our industry leading diagnostic testing capabilities, we also provide vestibular rehabilitation, balance therapy, and general muscle strengthening and reconditioning for our patients. The highlight of our rehabilitation program is the use of our NeuroCom Smart EquiTest Posturography which can objectively measure a patients three sensory inputs at one time.

At all NDBC clinics we utilize NeuroCom's Smart Equitest Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) for objectively measuring the functionality of our patients three sensory inputs (visual, inner ear, sense of touch in feet) when they are entering our Vestibular and Neurological rehabilitation programs. This establishes a starting point for the patient for their rehabilitation program and enables us to re-test the patient after a month to see how they are progressing. This gives us immediate feedback on the overall effectiveness of a patient's individualized therapy program and helps us to fine tune each patients program to maximize results.

Multidisciplinary Approach
One of NDBC's key success factors has been the utilization of a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment. This means it's possible for our patients to be working with a team of professionals that may include: neurologists, otolaryngologists, general practioners, audiologists, and physical therapists. Because our medical staff all work at the same facility, it allows for a true team approach and better patient results. This team approach and continuity of patient care is what makes our program so successful.

Patient Care

Along with our exceptional diagnostic testing and treatment capabilities, we take great pride in providing extraordinary patient care while in the process of treating a patients condition. We provide our patients with a new, fresh starting point for diagnosing and treating their dizziness or balance problem where all the necessary medical experts and diagnostic technologies are located in one facility. This ensures consistent diagnosis and treatment for each patient throughout their time here at NDBC.
